Milang
77 kilometres from Adelaide
In the late 19th century, Milang was the largest inland port in South Australia, providing a busy trade and produce hub for road transport from Melbourne. The paddle steamers are long gone, leaving Milang as a peaceful refuge with a laid-back lifestyle that suits families, windsurfers, anglers or binocular-packing bird-watchers.
Set on the western shore of Lake Alexandrina, Milang has many charming old buildings, including two restored railway carriages on the tracks, which houses the very interesting heritage museum and a group of quirky heritage 'work men's shacks' on the foreshore.
fast fact
Milang is the only town situated on the shores of Lake Alexandrina (other towns such as Clayton Bay and Goolwa are located within the lake's estuaries).
