Another incentive to take to the back roads are places like Prospect Hill that was settled as a farming district by English, Scottish and Irish immigrants around the middle of the 19th century. Tucked behind Kuitpo Forest and leading down Blackfellows Creek Road to Mount Magnificent Conservation Park, the area has a long and fascinating history that's well recorded in Prospect Hill Historical Museum.
Prospect Hill was ravaged by the Ash Wednesday bushfires in 1983, and many of the town's buildings have since been rebuilt.
