Heysen Trail: Waitpinga to Victor Harbor

This is the Southern end of the Heysen Trail that stretches 1200 ks to the Flinders Ranges.
Distance of this section: 16 km (one way). Allow 6 hours, moderate difficulty.
Wear sturdy footwear and carry water (2 litres per person).
Remember the rules for conservation parks - no fires, pets, or vehicles. Stay on trails, take rubbish home, and take only photos/leave only footprints.

Description: From Waitpinga Beach, the trail traverses sand dunes, and a long gradual climb to Newland Head Conservation Park. The way is though dense coastal vegetation, then a wide, grassed trail to Newland Head. Coastal cliffs give magnificent ocean views and shore views, past Kings Head and Petrel Cove. Minor roads take the walker into Victor Harbor. The trail has "Heysen Trail" signs every 300m.
Camping, toilets and BBQ are available at Waitpinga Camping Ground (permits: Dept Environment, Water and Natural Resources. )
SWIMMERS BEWARE: Parsons and Waitpinga beaches and Petrel Cove have strong rips and holes, and swimming is not recommended.
