Discover the 2025 South Australian Wooden Boat Festival Art Trail

The Art Trail showcases a collaboration of local artists and galleries in the region, as part of the 2025 SAWBF program. 

Follow the Festival Art Trail on 26 - 27 April 2025. See locations showcasing some of South Australia’s most talented Artists, an exciting mix of traditional & contemporary Exhibitions.  

All artworks will be available for sale.

Level 1 - Yuntulun Ku:li-war Exhibition

'Yuntulun Ku:li-war’ – translates to ‘Coming together on the headland’ in Ngarrindjeri. This interactive exhibition tells the stories of the First Nations people of this area, the early settlement history of Goolwa as a major river port and the ecology of the Murray Darling River system. 

Level 1 - Ngarrindjeri Cultural Workshops & Demonstrations

Traditional Ngarrindjeri weaving, learn the ancient art of weaving, using locally sourced natural fibres. 

Level 2 - Goolwa & Wooden Boats - Reigniting the Passion Exhibition

Photographic exhibition brings together a group of enthusiastic boaties which includes paddle wheeler enthusiasts, river boat captains, sailors, shipwrights and restorers, marina operators and boating families.  

 Sharing their stories and celebrate their passion for all types of wooden boats. 

Level 2 - The Movement of Water Exhibition

Osmosis, fluent, emanating, trickling, issuing, swamping, deluging, racing, rippling, engulfing, sheeting, fluvial, flow …. This group of artists studies the movement of water through multitudinous lenses, scientific, biophilic, emotive, climate change, cultural, psychological, scenic, abstract, sailing and more. In celebration of aquaphiles all, with respect to our most precious resource. 

 

Youth Arts Workshop - Title – “All a (card) board"

All a (card)board! Artists Mike Tye, Samuel Mulcahy and Cedric Varcoe work with young people to create a paddle steamer and all sorts of nautical, marine and mythical creatures out of cardboard. Think cardboard is only for packaging?-you’ll never look at it the same again!  

Youth Arts Exhibition - Title – “Little Picassos”

Family Friendly event during the 2025 Wooden Boat Festival. The skills learned throughout the weekly sessions at the Goolwa Community Centre will be used to construct and decorate boats, nautical elements, marine and mythical creatures which will seen at the Festival.

“HOPES & DREAMS”

Exhibition to showcase embroidered wall art, inspired by her art going to the Moon. 
Figurative Fleurieu landscapes, and tailored one off wearable art.  Visitors can watch Cheryl’s unique techniques to create an artwork and view her sketchbooks at Round House Studio during the Festival weekend.  


Cheryl received the 2024 UNESCO Award by Governor of South Australia for excellence in embroidery and outstanding contribution to the fine arts.

Goolwa History Centre and Museum

Housing an extensive collection of artefacts relating to early Goolwa, Currency Creek and Hindmarsh Island. 

There is a large archival collection which is available by appointment only. The Museum is self-supporting and run by volunteers. Admission is by donation.
